The Joe Pickett saga continues with a really fine effort from a great story teller.Nowhere to Run has longer scenes than most of the other books in the series. With some interludes, a couple of long-range wilderness patrols by Wyoming's most famous game warden cover many of the pages of the novel. Interesting characters abound and the wild men who become the target of Pickett's searches are fascinating characters. As usual, Box returns to one of his frequent themes - this time governmental over-reach - to tie a ripping good tale into a current issue sharply dividing the country (though with most of the denizens of Wyoming on one side of the issue).

Nowhere to Run C J Box 9780399156458 Books Reviews
I have read all 12 of CJ Box books to date, and this one ("Nowhere To Run") does not disappoint in any way. It is a great story and one that is in line with much of our current thinking today. Box is always well written, well researched, and with a superb list of characters, many of whom are carry-over from his previous Joe Pickett series books.
If you have not read his previous Joe Pickett writings, then you owe it to yourself to get a copy (preferably starting with the first release - "Open Season"). They are all different and they are all excellent.
Likewise, his stand-alone publications (2 of them to date) are also excellent reads and I would highly recommend them. Personally, I can hardly wait for the next CJ Box stand-alone novel and of course anxiously await (for another year anyhow if he stays to the same release schedule as in the past, to date) the release of the next Joe Pickett novel. I am always eager to see what Joe is up to and what situation he finds himself in.
CJ Box is a master story-teller and truly a great author of the 'New West'.
This is really a timely book about a Senator, Wealthy Supporter, and Government forces taking over people's land without due process. Two brothers escape from government attack on their property that resulted in the brothers' family being killed. The brothers ended up in the mountains of 'WY and that is Joe Pickett's stomping grounds...so Joe with the help of Nate take on the brothers that leads them on a trail of bodies and booby traps trying to keep government people out of the brothers' wilderness world. Joe and Nate come together to bring the journey to a close...and Nate rides off into the sunset with the missing girl everyone searched for...but the girl was in league with the brothers and Nate was confused because he was an anti-government guy himself. So Joe and Nate's friendship is strained at the end and we will have to read the next book in the series to see what happens next between our heros'..
Wow, I just finished this book and it's has left me somewhat overwhelmed. It's the tenth book in the Joe Picket series and the characters are still continuing to develop. As is the author's ability to teach us more and more about Wyoming. Years ago I drove through the part of Wyoming that most of the book takes place in, now I wished I'd slowed down and opened my eyes. There is some strong underlying themes that are very real in the west today. Really enjoyed the book.
I am in the process of reading all of the Joe Pickett books and really enjoy them. As some one who enjoyed the outdoors I find these books not only a good read because of the information in the books but the great way the stories evolve and the interesting characters in the stories. The author weaves great plots and in doing so interjects concepts about this country that need to be asked about our society and how the system does or doesn't work for all the citizens not just the monied. So while I may not agree in total with all that is being put out there I find the arguments compelling and very current. I would hope any one interested in current assaults on our basic freedoms and truly loves this country should read these books not only for the great stories they tell but also for the questions they pose about the direction this country is going.
Joe Pickett, the Game Warden did one final task on the job he had for the last year. There were outlaw twins in the mountains scaring people. When he went to investigate, he is hurt ending up in the hospital. It is a case where the government seized their property in another state to give to a corporation that would bring in a lot of taxes. Three of their family werekilled and they found this place hoping to be left alone. So I'm not sharing more, since that may ruin it for you. The writing is good. The characters have depth and he describes situations and sights so well. I know I'm hooked.
Read this in paperback some years ago. Am glad C. J. Box is available in e-books. His stories are well written, plots not easily foreseen, just as exciting to re-read after some time. I appreciate the familiar landscape and the fact that his stories are clean and speak of common people living as well as they can under current political conditions. Like other favorite authors he exposes life, possible conspiracies in "make believe" form.
Just put me down for ALL of CJ Box's books. So very entertaining from beginning to end. I enjoy the 'pull and push' between Joe and Nate, both oh so settled in their opinions of right and wrong but both finding that maybe their best friend just might have a good idea or two that provides fodder for thought. And I LOVE that their emotional make-up is so far apart but yet, from the beginning, they remain steadfast friends. And I like very much the many layers to the friendship or the many people involved. Nate is one lucky man in my opinion to have found this family. Or did they find him?
I was surprised in the beginning to have fallen in love with this series because I don't generally like 'family' stories but I sure liked this family.
I highly recommend CJ Box and his Joe Pickett. I'd just love to sit down with him and talk about he crafted this character! Please read this series-you won't be disappointed.
