Evil In Disguise edition by Deborah McClatchey Children eBooks Reviews

"Evil In Disguise" is great YA thriller that appeals to the older audience as well. A visit to a new pet shop turns eventful for Charlie and Marlin, and not because the town's bully Victor snatched their new purchase, a turtle that they felt the strange need to buy, right away. This grief was only the beginning, fading quickly in the unfolding events as they learn of the killings and find out the story behind the innocent-looking turtle. Will they be able to safe the world from a demon? Read to find out -)
From the very first page this is pure entertainment! What a masterful use of the imaginative faculty! I am thrust in a world of mystery, horror and suspense and I could swear on my life at one point I felt like I was there in the story, an invisible friend who accompanied Charlie, Marlin and Sunni in their quest to stop the malevolent fiend! Readers who relish character-driven stories with the skillful blend of horror, mystery and suspense will cherish this tale.
A clever tale of a terrorist turtle and the kids who search to stop him! The cover of this book pulled me in and once I started it, McClatchey's writing kept me hooked until the end. An imaginative story with well-drawn characters, unexpected twists, and a rather adorably evil villain. Highly recommend!
This story of Charlie and Marlin going to a new pet shop in there small town. They were so excited to have one, since the closet one was a ways away. Mr.Elmer Jacks the owner of the pet shop carries all sorts of animals and tells the two boys he at times travels to Central America to find new animals for his store. The boys look around with smiles and are so excited to see all the different types of reptiles, cats, puppies, spiders (yikes) and they stumble upon one glass case that held a unique turtle. This was no ordinary turtle, from first sight the turtle was looking back at Charlie with bright jade green eyes. He asked if he was for sale, but Mr. Jacks told the he wasn't for sale. Which got his interest why? He really liked this turtle and came back to the pet shop after school just to check him out again. One day when he went to buy a hamster, it got loose but that wasn't the only thing that got loose. The turtle was stolen by the school bully who follow Charlie into the pet shop to just start trouble. Well that turtle was trouble alright. It was the start of bad events when he was stolen.
Now to really find out what sort of trouble this turtle causes the small town, you have to read it. I am an adult and I was captivated in the story line. This is a good read for youth 13 yrs and older.. it is a short read, so you won't be reading a huge novel but you will be done before you know it. It is a good read. I like it.

I received this in exchanged for an honest review.
Imaginative and different. Recommended to genre fans. Will read more by this author.
OH MY GOSH! This was amazing! I loved it!
Deborah McClatchey's stories are always unique and entertaining. This YA suspense tale is no exception. I love the idea of the villain being an innocent looking turtle. My ten-year-old grandson is a fan of horror stories, too, and he enjoyed it as well. A great book for young or old readers.
