What I'm beginning to appreciate most about this series is not just the Hunky Hero. That's been done many times before (Handsome, sexy, brooding Vampires...gotta love 'em...), and I'm not saying that they're not great. But as a reader, I've come to EXPECT them to be great. The real appeal to these books for me are the Heroines. I've gotten a bit weary of the hapless female who endlessly puts herself in precarious situations due to her stupid decisions.

Ivy's Heroines tend to be more powerful ( and less stupid). The one in this book, although not as powerful in her own right as the ones in the first two books, is marvelously independent and doesn't continually put herself into danger through her own actions. Not once did I feel the urge to slap some sense into her. Believe me, that's a high recommendation coming from me.

I enjoy the returning characters, the new characters, and the sexy romance scenes. This is a good Adult Paranormal Romance series for those who like Vampires, Werewolves, and many other Supernatural Fantasy Beings. And I relish HEA stories that don't rely on Cliff Hangers to suck the reader into the purchase of the next book--I will gladly keep reading this series because I WANT to continue to immerse myself in the World that the Author has created. It also doesn't hurt that the books are priced reasonably and even occasionally are discounted. Works for me!

Alexandra Ivy amazes me. As I am an avid reader of everything -- even milk cartons -- but a harsh critique of smarm, cliche and gratuitous sex -- her Guardians of Eternity series entertains me in all ways. Yep, there is the gorgeous "something" male and lovely female "something" and sexual tension, yet there is a new twist to the plots and new characters to tantalize and previous characters to enjoy throughout each book. Styx and Darcy head this novel of demons and vampires and weres and gargoyles and, and, and -- you get my drift. No spoilers or summarizing again what has already been summarized well by others. Just bask in the read. You will like -- even maybe love -- some of these people and will want to keep up with them throughout the series. They weave together beautifully and sometimes scarily. Have fun.
This is the third installment of the Guardians of Eternity series. I am late to this series, but I have read the first three in the series in three days. I'm loving it, and kind of kicking myself for not finding it sooner.

Very Brief Synopsis - Anyway, Darkness Everlasting features the ever so awesome Styx, the Anasso, or leader of the vampires. His ascension to the throne has occurred rather recently. All sorts of para-creatures are taking the opportunity to see how far they can push the boundaries of their treaties with the Vampires. Styx is kind of a stoic guy, very calm, even Zen-like. However, these little uprisings are getting under his skin. The Weres, in particular, are trying his patience. Styx learns the weres are searching for a woman, and decides to use her for leverage against them.

Darcy, the woman in question, is a hard working bartender/pizza delivery person/ several other odd jobs. She isn't sure what to think when she comes to, and Styx is there to tell her he is holding her, and why. She is oddly accepting of the existence of things fangy and furry. When Styx comments on her lack of freaked out-ness, Darcy reveals a few secrets of her own.

What worked for me - So very much worked in Darkness Everlasting. Darcy is a terrific shero, but really different than the average heroine. Darcy is a pacifist, and a vegetarian. She has a very laid back, live for the moment type of vibe. Not much phases her. She tends to just go with the flow, until she doesn't. The thing is, when Darcy puts her foot down about something, Styx tends to listen because she is so easy going most of the time. The things I liked best about Darcy was her unwillingness to be bogged down by her circumstances(deserted at birth, shuffled from home to home, on her own since a young age) and her ability to be trusting and yet, not be stupid with it. Darcy does what needs to be done, even if she doesn't like doing it. And she melts Styx like candle wax.

Styx worked on every level. He is uber alpha, arrogant and used to having his orders followed. Darcy knocks him for a loop from the first time he sees her, and it only gets worse. I loved that Styx had Levet traipse across the city to retrieve Darcy's belongings, to ease her stay with him. Levitt described it best when he said(paraphrasing) "Styx says Darcy this, Darcy that, Darcy must be kept happy..." Styx cares about Darcy, so much, and he goes out of his way to accommodate her needs. Watching his control slowly unravel was delicious.

There is a lot of story here, in addition to the romance. Very interesting, very fast paced, and I don't want to go into it because it would be spoiler after spoiler. Suffice it to say, Darcy isn't what she seems.

Bottom line - Darkness Everlasting is a terrific, fast moving, at times nail-biting, red hot read. Great story, great smexy times, a lot of humor...Complete win. Do yourself a favor, start at the beginning and devote some time to this series, because you will get addicted.
