This is a tough review to write. First, I want to acknowledge that the author tried to a a new take on the "love through the ages" theme. The problem is, the author didn't fully buy into the PNR aspect of the book, so the reader was always left doubting through the first half of the book as to what was going on. This made the book kind of confusing - and that confusion lasted pretty much throughout.

The second issue I had was plot resolution. There was a dirty cop on Sam's team - never identified. I guess because this is a series, the author thought that was OK, but it left a lot of the narrative arc unresolved (as did the lack of resolution with Dan, etc.) so this felt like an incomplete read. Not a traditional cliffie - Sam and Marcie's relationship resolved itself - but the underlying plot was left in an unsatisfying place.

The third issue was editorial - massive amounts of repetition in the PNR sequences - was Marcie too stupid to get it, or was the reader?

I'm on the fence about reading the next one.

Marcie is a young witch/drug mule who hits her head in the New Orleans airport. Sam is a sexy DEA agent in disgrace who is there for Marcie when she regains consciousness and has . . . lost all her memory.

I almost deleted the file right then, because seriously? Amnesia? Anyway, Marcie can only remember her name, but she's so beautiful that Sam invites her home.

I had some questions from the get-go. Like, if you're a DEA agent who has tons of drugs found in your locker and you're suspected of tipping off the target of a major investigation, can you just go home? Or will you maybe have to answer some questions about what you're up to? And with all the warning signs about Marcie, is Sam's attraction to her really sufficient to override his common sense?

A fairly typical romantic suspense plot is enlivened by "spirit," the mystical force that powers Marcie by giving her dreams and making her the target of an evil drug wizard who has haunted her and Sam through all the subsequent lives. And ghosts and tarot cards and a wise old black lady and a British witch and, man. This plot was all over the place.

If the spirituality hadn't been so formless, vague, and new agey, I think it would have been okay. But the combination of the flaky spirituality, the reheated plot, the instalove, Marcie's constant tears, and the amnesia was too much for me. The story ends on a cliffhanger, but I've already made my choice about continuing the story
Maybe it is my fault for reading the book, I'm usually not into paranormal and witchcraft.

The story had me interested at the beginning when Marcie who is transporting a bad of weed to New Orleans and is mugged and her product stolen, causing her to fall and lose her memory. Of course there is a hero to help her out, Sam who just happens to be on the same flight she was on and he just happens to be a DEA agent.

Through ups and downs and back and forth drama, they end up in love.

The whole dreaming about the past and I mean past, like 150 years ago is supposed to of some way paved the way for Sam and Marcie to meet and turn the darkness to light. It was just a bit too much for me.
I'm giving this two stars rather than one because there was an actual storyline in there somewhere and I was interested enough to finish the book, although I skimmed through the last quarter of it. I wanted to find out what happened, but I had to force myself to finish.

The Choice could use a professional edit. The descriptions were tedious, detailed, and repetitious. The book could have been about half as long because we heard the whole story at least twice. Every time a character would tell another something, we had to hear the exact same thing being told to a third character later. The sentences were stilted and a grammatical mess. There were also issues with the dialogue, and having trouble telling who was speaking, but part of that may have been an ebook formatting issue.

Marcie's constant refrain of "x is innocent so I won't tell you anything" was really annoying and pretty stupid considering the circumstances. I was glad when someone finally attempted to put a stop to that. Actually, now that I think about it, I'm not sure I liked any of the characters. Marcie was sympathetic at first, but she became annoying pretty quickly and Sam was pretty much a jerk most of the time.
